Implied Consent to Participate in a Research Study
A. Purpose and Procedures
The purpose of this research study is to better understand age-related changes in memory. This study has been reviewed and approved by the Temple University Institutional Review Board, approval #11149. If you agree to participate in this research study, we will ask you to do the following: (1) Watch an animation, which lasts approximately 4 – 5 minutes, and (2) answer 16 questions regarding the video. You will do this twice with different animation videos. (2) Answer some questions about your preferences as well as questions about what you are like (age, gender, etc.). At the end of the study, we will let you know all the details about what we are studying and how your data contributes to the process.
B. Risks and Confidentiality
There are no risks associated with participating in this study. All of your responses will be kept private and secured in a password protected computer file and undisclosed to persons outside of the research other than the researchers that are part of this study. You do not need to give any identifying information such as your name or email address to participate in this study. IP addresses are routinely recorded, but are completely confidential. Research designs often require that the full intent of the study not be explained prior to participation. When the study is completed, you will receive a full debriefing on the purpose and the procedures of the research. You have the right to end the study at anytime. All of your responses will be anonymous. All the data collected will be for research purpose only. Data will not be accessed by anyone else other than the researchers themselves.
C. Costs/Benefits
There will be no cost to you or direct benefits to you for participating in this research. Some people may feel good that they helped the scientific enterprise. Thank you for helping with this study your participation is greatly appreciated! If you are forwarding this study to others, please do not describe the procedure (it is important for accuracy of results). D. Consent
PARTICIPATION IS VOLUNTARY.
Your participation is completely voluntary. Therefore, you may terminate the experiment at anytime.
